The Mandela University Press (MUP) which has been years in the making and received its approval from the University’s executive management committee in 2021, is the first university press in the Eastern Cape. The Mandela University Press joins seven other scholarly presses in South Africa and will build on the identity of the University and its transformative posture. The Press will publish peer reviewed works from academics across the world, as well as publications that have a local and national South African flavour.
The launch book is ‘Achieving Nelson Mandela University?’ edited by Vice-Chancellor Prof Sibongile Muthwa and historian Dr Denver A. Webb. The book explores the origins, evolution and future trajectory of the University through contributions of a cross-section of writers from diverse backgrounds, situating the institution within the contemporary historical moment from which it emerged and examines its subsequent evolution.
